DIN 1472 grooved pins and Type B grooved pins are solid, non-tapered fasteners with three half-length tapered grooves. They are ideal for use as hinges, stops, pivots, or where the smooth end of the shaft can act as a handle while the grooved end holds the pin in place. Available in 300 series stainless steel or low-carbon steel with an optional zinc finish, this product line offers a versatile selection of simple, easy-to-install pins for a range of application needs.

DIN 1472 Grooved Pins and Type B Grooved Pins for Strong Press-Fit Connections

Type B & DIN 1472 grooved pins are solid, non-tapered pins with three half-length tapered grooves (or flutes) that open wide at the end of the pin. Because the grooves are half-length instead of full-length, the smooth half of the shank is often used as a hinge or stop. These two types of grooved pins (Type B and DIN 1472) should not be used interchangeably; while they look similar, Type B pins are imperial and DIN 1472 pins are metric.
Grooved pins (or grooved dowel pins) as a general category are solid, press-fit fasteners characterized by their three parallel grooves spanning a specific length of the pin shaft. Depending on the unique type of pin, the grooves may be half-length, full-length, tapered, non-tapered, placed in the middle or the end of the shaft, etc. Each variation lends itself to different application needs, but the general function is the same: the pin is inserted into a mating hole, and the grooves exert pressure against the hole as they try to expand but cannot. This increases the pin’s holding strength. They are often used as pivots, levers, or in place of taper pins.

Product Benefits

Type B & DIN 1472 grooved pins offer the following benefits:
  • Pivot/Stop/Handle Capability: The smooth end of the shaft can be used as a handle, pivot, or stop while the grooved end holds the pin in place.
  • Easy Installation: These pins are simple in design and are press-fit installed, keeping tools and complexity to a minimum.
  • Affordable: These pins offer durability at a cost-efficient price so you can rely on effective connections.

Purchase Considerations

Consider the following characteristics to help you evaluate which pin will fit your application needs best:
  • Materials and Finishes: These pins are available in 300 series stainless steel and low carbon steel with a plain or zinc finish, offering different options durability and corrosion resistance.
  • Overall Length: Overall lengths range from either 0.25in. - 2in. Or 4mm. - 120mm. to provide a range of precise lengths.
